Greetings from glorious Oakland, California where the alarming 2006 homicide rate is making it increasingly harder for us to say that our city “really isn’t that bad”. Thankfully though, Oakland still has plenty of fine musical offerings and we here at Double Negative Records are happy to serve them up to you.
With that in mind, we’d like to officially welcome a new addition to the Double Negative family – Battleship. These guys have been tearing up the Oakland warehouse scene for a while now and generally kicking ass whenever and wherever they play. Their music is loud, fast and hard – listening to Battleship is the sonic equivalent of getting punched in the face. In May, Double Negative Records will be releasing Battleship’s brand new 7” entitled To Give, Not a Gift. These tracks will not be released on any future Battleship albums so this will be your ONLY chance to hear them. Making the whole thing even better is the fact that this 7” will be the first vinyl release on Double Negative Records. Keep checking back in the weeks ahead for more information about Battleship and the new 7”.
All the O.G. Double Negative fans may be wondering what’s up with our other bands. The answer: plenty. Postcoitus is working on new material and has been invited to play the Noise Pop Festival again this year. Death of a Party is also planning to record some new music soon but will be keeping busy with lots of shows. They will be opening up for Blood on the Wall, doing a quick tour with The Mall and Archeopteryx and following it all up with an appearance at the Mission Creek Music Festival. Our shows page will have all the details, so make sure to give it a look.
That’s it for now. More exciting Double Negative happenings are currently in the “development” stage but we promise to amaze you with more announcements very soon.
