This little update is probably completely unnecessary, as we’re sure you’ve all had this date circled on your calendars for months. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Either that or the day when the new album from The Death of a Party was released.
After two long years, The Rise and Fall of Scarlet City is finally available. Go pick up a copy at your local record shop. If they don’t have it, tell them to order it from the fine folks at Revolver. Too lazy to leave the house? Well, we’ve got you covered. Order the CD online directly from us and it will show up at your doorstep in a matter of days. Go here and click the Buy Now button.
Not convinced? Still waiting to follow the herd? For all you kids who need someone else to tell you what to do, we’ve put up gobs of new articles explaining just how life-changingly good the new album is. Just go here and click the press link at the bottom of the page.
There’s no excuse! Buy the album!
Everyone in the Bay Area should remember that the big CD release party is this Thursday, May 24th at the Bottom of the Hill. The Death of a Party already spent most of May touring the West Coast and they’ll be hitting up the rest of the country in July. Keep checking our shows page for updates.

No, the band is not breaking up. Sorry if I scared anyone.
John from The Fucking Ocean is leaving San Francisco for the bright lights and delicious pizza of New York City. Although the band will be taking a little break from shows while they work out the long-distance music-making process, in the very near future they plan to start playing again on a semi-regular basis in both New York and San Francisco.
Nevertheless, those heady days when The Fucking Ocean’s distinct brand of noisy post-punk could be heard three or four times a month in San Francisco will soon be a thing of the past. Now you feel bad for taking The Fucking Ocean for granted, don’t you?
The band has two final SF shows planned before their little hiatus: May 12 at 12 Galaxies as part of the Mission Creek Music Festival and May 19 at Warehouse 1310. Go to our shows page for all the details.

Since there are so many overzealous Death of a Party fans out there who just can’t wait until their new album The Rise and Fall of Scarlet City is officially released on May 22, we’ve decided to go ahead and start taking pre-sale orders.
Okay, maybe there are like four kids out there clamoring for the new album, but we’re going ahead with this pre-sale thing anyways. Go here for all the album details and click the Buy Now button to place your order. If you act fast you might just get your copy in the mail before the official release date.

A few months back, our pals at fellow Oakland label Tigerbeat 6 launched a new sub label called Tigerbass. Designed to be more “dancefloor friendly” than the usual Tigerbeat 6 offerings, Tigerbass will be releasing a series of 12″ singles full of “club trax for everyone from artists who answer to no one.” Hopefully that means more amped, raved-up electro/techno/baltimore/baile funk/whatever jams along the lines of the first few singles.
Tigerbass has just launched a new blog for news and DJ mixes. The blog promises to post a new DJ mix every time a new Tigerbass single is released. The first mix was put together by UK artist Genuine Guy.
