Here at Double Negative headquarters we are happy to announce that 2008 is shaping up to be our biggest year ever. Granted we’ve never really had a “big year” but we remain somewhat optimistic that 2008 is going to qualify.
Many of your favorite Double Negative acts are getting busy with the new year. Tempo No Tempo kicked off a tour last night that will take them up and down the West Coast for the next few weeks. Check out our shows page for all the details.
Everyone’s favorite chanteuse (Rolling Stone called her a chanteuse, so we might as well roll with it), Emily Jane White, has also booked a bunch of Bay Area shows in January and February. Those are also listed over on the shows page. In the meantime, an alarming number of people from around the globe continue to purchase her CD. We have no idea who these people are but we are very happy that they want to give us money for something we put out. It’s almost like we are an actual record label or something.
In other news, The Fucking Ocean are putting the finishing touches on their Peruvian tour. That is not a misprint – the band is going to Peru in February to play some shows. Pretty exciting. Keep checking back for more details.

Although the world seems to be gripped by some kind of Emily Jane White mania, here at Double Negative HQ we haven’t forgotten about our other new release, Repetition by Tempo No Tempo. The new EP officially drops today at your local record shop and it has already been receiving some sparkling reviews from the press. (Go here and click “Tempo No Tempo press” at the bottom of the page to see for yourself.) Web-savvy types can purchase the album digitally at iTunes, eMusic and Other Music, while those looking to cut out the middle man can also order the album directly from us.
Tempo No Tempo will be celebrating with all their Bay Area comrades at the official CD release party this Thurdsay, November 15 at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. They’ll be joined by The Lovely Public, The Dont’s and DJ Pasternak (of Lemonade) and the whole night is being sponsored by the folks at The Deli SF. In January the boys will be taking off on a West Coast tour. Many of the dates have already been announced, so go to our shows page to get all the details.
In other Double Negative news, both Emily Jane White and The Fucking Ocean are in the middle of their tours. Emily is about to tackle the Pacific Northwest while later this week The Fucking Ocean will make their final 2007 swing through the Northeast. Again, our shows page has all the information.

After months of intense anticipation, Emily Jane White’s Dark Undercoat is finally being released today. Consider yourself free to run down to the local record shop and purchase a copy. Dark Undercoat is also available digitally on iTunes, eMusic and Other Music, and those of you who don’t want to leave the happy confines of the Double Negative website will also be happy to know that the album can be ordered directly from us.
Tomorrow Emily kicks off a short West Coast tour that will take her through Northern California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada. Some Los Angeles shows are being planned for later this month along with a few high-profile gigs back home in the Bay Area. All of the details can be found on our shows page. In the meantime, the high praise for Dark Undercoat just keeps rolling in. To make things easier for the Emily Jane White fans of the world, we have been cataloging all of her press here. (Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Emily Jane White press”)
In other Double Negative news, Tempo No Tempo is readying their new EP Repetition for release next Tuesday, November 13. The EP is available for pre-order here. The boys have scheduled a big CD release show on Thursday, November 15 at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. They’ll be joined by The Dont’s, The Lovely Public and DJ Pasternak (of Lemonade). Mark your calendars.
Although The Fucking Ocean don’t have a new release coming out this month (look for a new EP in 2008), they are still kicking ass on both sides of the United States. This month they will be playing several shows on both coasts. Again, check our shows page for all the details.

This November your pals at Double Negative Records will be releasing two new records for your listening enjoyment: Dark Undercoat from Emily Jane White and Repetition from Tempo No Tempo. Oddly enough, we’re not the only ones excited about these new releases. It appears that a few members of the outside world are anxiously awaiting the day when they can get their hands on this new music. (Yeah, we can’t explain it either.)
To help satiate the thirst for new Double Negative material, we’ve put up a few more details about the releases and even made a few tracks available for listening/downloading. Go here to get the skinny on Emily Jane White’s Dark Undercoat, while the 411 on Tempo No Tempo’s Repetition can be found here. Any superfans out there should also take note that both releases have been made available for pre-order. If you want to guarantee yourself a copy of either record (or both), and maybe even have it show up in the mail a little before the actual release date, go ahead and place your order now.
Both Emily Jane White and Tempo No Tempo will be touring in late 2007 and early 2008 to support their new records, so take a look at our shows page from time to time to see if they’ll be stopping in a town near you.
In other label news, Death of a Party recently wrapped up a successful tour with the Lovemakers and will continue to play shows. Their most recent album The Rise and Fall of Scarlet City is available for purchase here. After a short hiatus, last weekend The Fucking Ocean played a few Bay Area shows and even made a stop in Reno. Look for some East Coast dates later this year and a South American tour (no joke) in early 2008.

It has been almost a year since we welcomed any new additions to the Double Negative family, so we have decided to make up for it by bringing not one, but two new artists into the fold. We are very excited to announce that San Francisco singer/songwriter Emily Jane White and Berkley band Tempo No Tempo have joined the Double Negative roster.
This fall Emily Jane White will be releasing her debut album Dark Undercoat and a few weeks later Tempo No Tempo’s new EP Repetition will follow. We’re still putting the final touches on everything but we can say that both artists will be touring around the West Coast (and maybe further), so keep checking our shows page and watch out for a date near you.
In other news, we have been very busy spreading the gospel about the recently-released Death of a Party album, The Rise and Fall of Scarlet City. Much to our surprise, the press and radio have been drooling about how great it is – all the proof is over on their artist page. (Just click the press link at the bottom of the page.) Even Greil Marcus likes it and yes, we are still confused about that. If you have not bought yourself a copy of the album you should drop whatever you’re doing and order it online directly from us. Sprinting down to your local record shop and demanding a copy is also acceptable. One last Death of a Party item – this was already mentioned on our blog, but the band is going on a big tour with fellow Oaklanders The Lovemakers. All the details are on the shows page.
Another important item from the blog is that Battleship will be playing their final show this Sunday night in Oakland after terrorizing/delighting audiences for four years. We highly recommend that everyone head out to 21 Grand and send the band off to the ship graveyard in style.
