Hello again from Double Negative HQ. Keen-eyed readers may have noticed a few changes around here, but we figured that we should go ahead and put up some official “news” about all the radness going on. First and foremost, next week we’ll be releasing Kick, the debut album from our favorite Oakland-based lady foursome, The Splinters. Tomorrow night the girls will be celebrating with an official release party at Amnesia in San Francisco alongside Hunx and His Punkettes and Magic Bullets. If you can’t make it out, make sure and pre-order the album as fast as humanly possible.

In other Splinters news, the band recently completed a video for the song “Mysterious,” which you can check out below. It’s spooky.

Hello again! Remember us? Double Negative Records? We know it’s been awhile but we’re happy to report that tales of our demise were greatly exaggerated. In fact, we have a new band to introduce, a new record to put out, and a new sense of excitement about the Bay Area music scene.

First of all, we’d like to welcome The Splinters to the Double Negative family. This all-girl quartet from the East Bay is seemingly incapable of writing anything but adorable garage-pop ditties, so we’re thrilled to be releasing their official debut 7″, Splintered Bridges. The official record release show is happening this Saturday, August 1 in San Francisco (check the shows page for all those details – it’s actually a triple record release party), but those of you who aren’t in the Bay Area are more than welcome to buy yourself a copy of the record right here. The girls are even hand-decorating a very limited number of records, so make sure to grab a copy before they all disappear.

In the meantime, a few of our artists are still playing shows and we still have plenty of items for sale over on the releases page.

Just yesterday our beloved in-house chanteuse Emily Jane White hopped on a plane for Europe, as she’ll be spending the next couple of weeks gallivanting around France and Switzerland as part of the Les Femmes S’en Melent Festival. We don’t know what that means either, but the festival includes a bevy of female artists from around the globe, including Peaches, The Concretes, The Long Blondes, Lesbians on Ecstasy and a whole lot more. Of course, we’ve always thought that Emily should be rubbing elbows with that kind of elite company so it’s nice to know the rest of the world is catching up.

Go to our shows page for all the latest details of her European adventures. While there you can also find a few shows she’s lined up in May and June after she gets back to her native soil, including the Dark Undercoat vinyl release party on May 24 in Santa Rosa, CA. Our pals at Saint Rose Records are going to be releasing a limited run of the album on wax, so all you vinyl fiends should start counting your pennies now.

Last month everyone’s favorite Oakland post-punk outfit unveiled Red Meadows, a self-released EP stuffed with new songs and remixes. Until now, the EP has only been available for download on websites like the Deli SF and whatever other blogs had picked it up.

As of today, Red Meadows has found a home on this website. Although the EP is not an official Double Negative release, we happen to think that it’s pretty damn good and wanted to make sure that as many Death of a Party fans as possible could hear it.

Go here to find all the details and download the EP. Let’s hope this doesn’t crash our server.

For those of you who would like to catch Death of a Party live, you will be happy to know that the boys have started playing a lot of shows again. Check out our shows page for their full calendar.

Here at Double Negative headquarters we are happy to announce that 2008 is shaping up to be our biggest year ever. Granted we’ve never really had a “big year” but we remain somewhat optimistic that 2008 is going to qualify.

Many of your favorite Double Negative acts are getting busy with the new year. Tempo No Tempo kicked off a tour last night that will take them up and down the West Coast for the next few weeks. Check out our shows page for all the details.

Everyone’s favorite chanteuse (Rolling Stone called her a chanteuse, so we might as well roll with it), Emily Jane White, has also booked a bunch of Bay Area shows in January and February. Those are also listed over on the shows page. In the meantime, an alarming number of people from around the globe continue to purchase her CD. We have no idea who these people are but we are very happy that they want to give us money for something we put out. It’s almost like we are an actual record label or something.

In other news, The Fucking Ocean are putting the finishing touches on their Peruvian tour. That is not a misprint – the band is going to Peru in February to play some shows. Pretty exciting. Keep checking back for more details.

Tempo No Tempo will be celebrating with all their Bay Area comrades at the official CD release party this Thurdsay, November 15 at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. They’ll be joined by The Lovely Public, The Dont’s and DJ Pasternak (of Lemonade) and the whole night is being sponsored by the folks at The Deli SF. In January the boys will be taking off on a West Coast tour. Many of the dates have already been announced, so go to our shows page to get all the details.

After months of intense anticipation, Emily Jane White’s Dark Undercoat is finally being released today. Consider yourself free to run down to the local record shop and purchase a copy. Dark Undercoat is also available digitally on iTunes, eMusic and Other Music, and those of you who don’t want to leave the happy confines of the Double Negative website will also be happy to know that the album can be ordered directly from us.

Tomorrow Emily kicks off a short West Coast tour that will take her through Northern California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada. Some Los Angeles shows are being planned for later this month along with a few high-profile gigs back home in the Bay Area. All of the details can be found on our shows page. In the meantime, the high praise for Dark Undercoat just keeps rolling in. To make things easier for the Emily Jane White fans of the world, we have been cataloging all of her press here. (Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Emily Jane White press”)

In other Double Negative news, Tempo No Tempo is readying their new EP Repetition for release next Tuesday, November 13. The EP is available for pre-order here. The boys have scheduled a big CD release show on Thursday, November 15 at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. They’ll be joined by The Dont’s, The Lovely Public and DJ Pasternak (of Lemonade). Mark your calendars.

Although The Fucking Ocean don’t have a new release coming out this month (look for a new EP in 2008), they are still kicking ass on both sides of the United States. This month they will be playing several shows on both coasts. Again, check our shows page for all the details.
